If you get off track, you can return to your ideal weight.

Beating obesity can feel impossible. It isn’t a disease most people can overcome through willpower alone. But whether you need to lose 20, 30, or over 100 pounds, The Hernried Center for Medical Weight Loss can help.

Important Aspects of Our 2-Step Program:

  • Step 1 – Use scientifically advanced, great-tasting meal replacements to shed your extra weight without hunger. Comparable cost to regular food bills.
  • Step 2 – You're now at a healthy weight. We'll support your transition back to grocery store food and help you keep the weight off for good.
  • Covered by Medicare and most PPO insurance plans.
  • No contracts.
  • No judgment – Even if you get off track, we’ll never give up on you.
  • Medical check-ups from our weight-loss doctors.
  • Customized diet, exercise and lifestyle planning.
  • Genetic customization – Targeted plans based on your genetics.
  • Eye-opening, engaging classes – Learn how to maintain a healthy weight for the rest of your life.
  • Peer support.

We’ve crafted our 2-Step Program to create lasting physical and behavioral change. Your weight loss journey will involve these two steps:

  • Step 1: Weight Loss with New Direction
  • Step 2: Weight Maintenance with Compass

Step 1: Weight Loss with New Direction

During New Direction (our name for Step 1), we'll lower your carbohydrate intake to almost zero, which encourages your body to use fat for fuel (instead of carbohydrates). To do this, your weight-loss diet will entirely (or almost entirely) consist of our scientifically advanced, delicious meal replacements. This simplifies your weight loss — no more worrying about meal preparation. And don't worry, the meal replacements are only temporary. Once you reach your goal weight, you'll transition to healthy grocery store food (Step 2).

Are the meal replacements healthy?

Absolutely. Our meal replacements are nutritionally complete, and they’re only available to doctors. And because your metabolism will be in a fat-burning state, you’ll efficiently use your fat reserves for energy. Which means that despite eating a limited number of calories and losing weight, you won’t feel hungry because you won't be "craving" food — your energy needs will be met by burning stored fat.

Quick info about Step 1: New Direction:

  • Build confidence by losing weight at a rapid, steady pace*
  • Over 30 meal replacement recipes keep your meals tasty and exciting
  • 24/7 on-call support
  • Similar cost to your average grocery store bill

Medicare and many private insurance companies see the incredible value of our weight-loss program — by fighting obesity, we reduce many conditions associated with obesity. The Hernried Center is currently contracted as in-network for the following insurers:

“I like the follow-up, support and maintenance program after you lose the weight. I especially like the small group setting. It’s more personal than other large programs where they don’t even know your name.”

–      Paula, patient*

“After several decades of failing at one attempt to reduce my weight after another, I was pretty close to despair. The Hernried Center appeared as the last opportunity for me, and has totally transformed the way I live my life, think about food, experience daily exercise, and consider what is possible for me.”

–      Janice, lost 160 lbs.*

“It wasn’t all about emotions and feelings. They told me why I weighed what I weighed and what I could do to change that. I was very impressed with the breadth of information from physiology to metabolism to nutrition. This is a lifestyle change.”

–      Larry, patient*

Like most of us, I’d tried every diet and weight loss program on the planet. I have never successfully maintained any significant amount of weight loss. This program literally saved my life.”

–      Lynn, lost 80 lbs.*

We’ve based our weight-loss approach on the idea that obesity is a chronic condition that typically requires a medical solution. Specialists at The Hernried Center will help you lose weight with our comprehensive 2-Step Program, which we’ve spent over 30 years fine-tuning to deliver significant, reliable results.

Step 2: Weight Maintenance with Compass

Compass (our name for Step 2) begins once you’ve reached your goal weight. You’ll start by transitioning from meal replacements to grocery store food. This generally lasts 6 weeks. After you’ve transitioned to healthy food, you’ll continue meeting with your Compass group (including your behavioral health educator — see next section) to discuss your day-to-day challenges and success strategies.

Navigating a Difficult Food Environment

Here's how we're different...

We've arrived at the core of the 2-Step Program: behavioral health education. Throughout Step 1: New Direction and Step 2: Compass, your behavioral health educator will discuss your progress and provide you with weight-regain avoidance strategies. Turning these diet, exercise and lifestyle strategies into habits is crucial to maintaining a healthy weight for the rest of your life.

On top of our specialized in-house training, each of our educators has a strong background in diet, lifestyle and weight-management counseling. This ensures that each team member is able to offer you individualized guidance to help you achieve the weight-loss results you've been working for.

Preparing you for successful, long-term weight maintenance.

Here are some topics your behavioral health educator will discuss:

  • Overcoming avoidance and denial
  • Targeting behaviors that contribute to weight gain
  • Developing a plan for successful weight maintenance
  • Training healthy behaviors
  • Building problem-solving skills
  • Identifying a healthy body weight and image
